  • Pascal visits ‘Out of the Ordinary’ at Christie’s

    ///September 4, 2013

    Pascal is a lover of auctions, and will be visiting a Christie’s auction in South Kensington on Thursday (5th September), which will be, as the theme promises, “Out of the Ordinary”.

    It will be a day to pick out something ‘a little different’ as 155 lots feature ‘striking’ items from around the world will be displayed, many of which have very intriguing stories to tell. It is customary to have variety at an auction, but this is eclecticism on an almost unimaginable scale. Car parts sit alongside bones, illuminated eyes peer down from the walls as a shark-crossed-women sculpture stalks the floor… but Pascal has his eye especially on the small collection of robots. There are two unusual and rare examples from the 1950s up for sale.

    The first of these is ‘Mechanical Man’ a British made steel Robot from 1950, designed by Meccano. Bright red and green and a metre high, he has a bright and cheeky look about him that makes us think he’s fit in well at HOME. He still has a working motor, enabling his legs to move and his head to turn from side to side, so Pascal would have to watch he didn’t wonder off!

    The other, named ‘Cygan’ is an Italian aluminium robot from 1957, designed by Dr Ing Fiorito. This robot measures 254cm (100 inches) tall from its huge silver ‘feet’ to the top of it’s green Perspex Mohican. Although it can no longer walk and talk, its mouth remains hanging open and the green antenna are still on full alert, awaiting instruction. He would naturally make a great big brother for Gort!

    If you like your own space a little more quirky and unusual, or fancy a break from conventional decoration, have a look at the catalogue online or pop down on Thursday and just see what you can find!

  • Huser Art Award launched at Francis Holland School

    ///July 9, 2013

    Pascal’s passion for art and design has led him to dedicate his support to the children and young people of SW London. From this year, the Huser Art Award will be available to pupils entering the senior school at Francis Holland School in Chelsea.

    This award will be offered to the most exceptional pupil at the start of each year, providing them with £200 to spend on art materials and equipment that will support and encourage their development as young artists. Starting this year with just year 7 pupils, it will go on to be awarded to one pupil in all year groups up to year 11.

    Having trained in art himself, studying Fine Art Painting at Wimbledon School of Art, Pascal values the importance of developing an appreciation and understanding of art in the young, and the possibilities it opens up to them in the future.

  • Pascal advises on home renovation

    ///June 10, 2013

    Pascal recently spoke to Tanager Wealth Management on the most important elements when considering a home renovation. Unsurprisingly, Pascal stressed the importance of planning. Three of his key recommendations include: 1) Don’t jump in too quickly if you purchase a property, 2) take professional advice with local knowledge and 3) be realistic about costs.

    In the London market now, basement excavations are the ‘big thing’ because following the popularity of loft, rear and side extensions, “there is no where else to go.” While a loft conversion or ground floor extension is relatively straightforward, basements are more complicated as an initial structural package needs to be submitted with the planning application.

    But the economics of a basement excavation are compelling and with basement build costs running approximately £400/sq ft and the average sales price in southwest London running £1,000/1,200/ sq ft, it’s easy to see why extending one’s home adds a lot of value. For larger projects, Pascal gives suggestions about finding the right team of professional advisors who are familiar with the unique features of period properties and to keep costs and timings under control, Pascal points out the benefits of retaining a cost consultant, also known as a quantity surveyor (QS).

  • Excavate!

    ///March 19, 2013

    Anyone frequenting Parsons Green lately will have either seen or heard about the new addition to Pascal Huser’s work force.

    He has only recently arrived, and has been instructed to spread Pascal’s new build and design message to all of the local homeowners thinking of developing: EXCAVATE!

    The Dalek can be seen in the window of Pascal’s office ‘HOME’ on Parsons Green Lane and is definitely an exciting talking point among the residents. He has made himself at home amidst the collection of retro artefacts that Pascal has selected for HOME so why not pop in and have a look?

    We have been told that he can be operated and moved around by climbing inside – a little like a sci-fi motorised scooter – so watch out South West London, Pascal may soon be whizzing around in a new form of transport!

  • Opening party

    ///November 18, 2012

    Pascal Huser has just celebrated the arrival of Gort the robot with an opening party for HOME (the Pascal Huser shop).

    Guests included a wide range of clients, architects and others involved in the design, building and renovation of properties.

    We even had a few TV stars, including art expert Andrew Lamberty and architect Ian Hogarth (did you see his house on Grand Designs? Amazing!)

    Picture shows Leire Apellaniz, who joined us a few weeks ago, together with Pascal Huser, as guests start to arrive.

  • Gort arrives!

    ///November 18, 2012

    If you have walked past the Pascal Huser shop recently, you have probably noticed that an eight foot tall robot has moved into our window.

    His name is Gort and he’s a copy of the original who played a leading (but silent) role in the classic 1951 film, ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’.

    Pascal found him in Hollywood a few months ago and had him shipped back to London.

    Like most of the things at HOME, he’s not actually for sale (yes, we’re wondering why we call it a shop – maybe we should simply call it Pascal Huser’s office), but we can get one made for you if you’re desperate for a large robot.

  • Pascal on TV

    ///November 18, 2012

    We’ve just completed some filming for a new TV show which will be broadcast on BBC2 next year.

    Art specialist Andrew Lamberty (star of the Channel 4 programme ‘Four Rooms’) visited HOME last week and spent some time with Pascal.

    Besides discussing Pascal’s collection of ‘modern antiques’, Andrew sold him an amazing American military globe dating back to the time of the Cuban missile crisis.

    The TV show is called ‘Auction Hero’ and is due to be broadcast in spring/summer 2013.

  • Shop opens!

    ///October 3, 2012

    HOME, the new Pascal Huser office and shop, has opened in Fulham SW6. If you’re walking up Parsons Green Lane (which runs from from New King’s Road to Fulham Road), the shop is on the left, just 100 yards further on from Parsons Green tube station.

    Besides providing a convenient location for clients to meet and discuss project work with us, it’s also a slightly whacky retail outlet, displaying some of the quirky “modern antiques” which Pascal has in his own home.

    Come in and play on our 1974 pinball machine, ogle the original Olivier Mourgue Djinn chairs from ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, and watch 1970s movies such as Space 1999, UFO and Thunderbirds, which are often playing on our wall.

    In the window you’ll also see some specially commissioned artwork from Lucinda Burman (detail illustrated here and more pics on Lucinda’s website at http://lucindaburman.wordpress.com)

    Next month HOME has something really special (and quite enormous) arriving from California. Keep watching the shop window!

  • Sprucing up for summer

    ///June 15, 2012

    With spring in the air, we thought it would be a good idea to smarten ourselves up a bit for the coming summer, so we’re making a few changes to our corporate I.D.

    It’s over ten years since we last looked at our logo, typefaces and public presentation items, so we’re taking this opportunity to bring everything into line under a co-ordinated corporate style.

    You can see the first steps take place over the next few months, with our updated logo, literature and the new presentation style for the website.

    Other items, such as vehicle livery, will be changing over the coming year, as they come up for their regular repainting and maintenance.

    We hope you like it!

  • Coming soon – the Pascal shop!

    ///May 15, 2012

    This summer, Pascal Huser will be opening a new shop and head office in Parsons Green Lane, London SW6. Called HOME, the shop is located just a minute’s walk from Parsons Green tube station, just south of Fulham road.

    As Pascal explains, HOME will serve two purposes:

    “We wanted to move our head office to a more prominent high street location, so that clients can come in for meetings in a more pleasant environment than a conventional office. It gives us an opportunity to reflect a little of the style of work that we undertake for clients, with pictures and details of some of the projects on which we are working.

    “But it won’t just be an office – we want it to be a slightly quirky retail outlet as well. I’ve called it HOME because it reflects, to a certain extent, the kind of items that I have in my own home. These could perhaps be described as ‘modern antiques’ – slightly offbeat artefacts from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. There’s no set rule, it could be a piece of furniture or an old school globe, a spectacular piece of art or a 1970’s model of Stingray.”
